Vic Toews claims Bill C-30 will move ahead
Vic Toews is our Public Safety Minister. He is also the face of Bill C-30. The Internet Surveillance Bill, or the ‘Investigating and Preventing Criminal Electronic Communications Act’ as it’s officially called, will allow Police and other agencies to acquire electronic communications and subscription data without any warrant whatsoever.
Toews claims that this Bill was conceived to fight child pornography.
As you would expect, the idea of authorities having such power is a little unnerving. Not only are the opposition against the Bill, but Toews is even receiving disapproval from some members of his own party.
Reports circulated on Tuesday that, because of upcoming House shuffling, summer recess and the process of passing a Bill, C-30 would be a dead issue. Not to be outdone, Vic Toews spoke out on Wednesday saying the Bill was alive and well, and would be moving ahead for readings. He also the Government was quite clear about moving the Bill to a committee. Exactly when the Bill will go to a committee will be left up to the House leader, who says until the House recesses in June, would be focusing on ‘economic legislation’.
With our privacy being compromised more and more each day, do you think Bill C-30 is what we need ?

The city of St John’s releases ‘My-Waste’ app, making it even easier to recycle
We all know the importance of recycling. The city of St John’s knows this too, and has recently licensed a new app to support it’s already successful ‘Curb It’ recycling program.
The new ‘My-Waste’ mobile app will enable you to schedule reminders for specific collection days for garbage and recyclables. It will also provide schedules for holidays and notify you of changes in regular pick up days. Seasonal services are also included, such as Christmas tree and leaf drop offs. And if you’re still confused about what items belong together, and which need to stay separate, this app will most certainly be useful.
The app can be downloaded (for free, of course) from Google Play, iTunes, http://www.curbitstjohns.ca or by scanning the QR code below.
Be sure to do your part by checking out this helpful new app.

OCZ reveals first ever 2.5 inch 1 TB Solid State Drive
Gareth Halfacree over at www.bit-tech.net has written about the announcement of the first ever 2.5 inch, 1 TB Solid State Drive (SSD). This undoubtedly expensive drive will take it’s place in OCZ’s Octane group of drives.
Solid State Drives provide certain benefits over traditional drives, making them very appealing regardless of application. An SSD has no moving parts, therefor making it less prone to mechanical failure. They are also silent with generally lower wait times.
No official price has been announced yet. but if this is something you’ve been waiting for, surf on over to bit-tech for the specifics and see what you think. Even if it’s something you’re not interested in, check it out anyways, it’s the future of storage.
Is The Simpsons older than you?
If you are reading this most likely The Simpsons are older then you, but who cares, the show is 23 years running strong…….

Hate it or love it The Simpsons have been running 23 years long and with a 24th season coming this fall it is safe to say this family of five have impacted pop culture by mocking it like nothing else. In the shows beginnings there was no foreseen outlook of the show lasting 24 episodes, yet a crudely drawn family based on Matt Groening’s own family have been in our lives as early as 1987 when it first appeared on the Tracy Ullman Show. In celebration of a my personal favorite show lasting another season and getting renewed for at least two more seasons I decided to share with you my personal break down of the Simpson family (minus Maggie, sorry, that’s far too deep) and how they satire pop culture like no one else.
In the beginning…..

Fancy A Game Of Poker? How About Partypoker?

Recently I have had a very, very positive experience with an online poker site, a very well-known poker site and since I speak danish and have a ongoing love for the Denmark flag and culture I play my online poker at Partypoker Denmark.
When you are dealing with money, and a lot of it, you are going to have to excel in customer service, support and content, which I have found that Partypoker has always brought to me. I needed the help of an agent yesterday and at the click of a button, my help arrives. I was promptly greeted and asked if I needed any assistance and so on. Besides the fact that I always have loved Partypoker’s way of dealing with things, it was the usefulness of the information that I was given, how clear it was and how I interpreted it. After I got on my way again and started playing poker I had noticed that I had 115Kr or about 20$ more than what I had deposited. This fine person had given me a bonus for free and I didn’t even have to ask for it!
Anyways, the point is, sometimes in life you don’t always have to ask for things, sometimes they just may come to you.
Visit partypoker and start playing fine Danish poker…Party style.

CBC Music under fire
The old saying remains true. You can’t please everybody.
Many people rejoiced when the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation went live with its free digital Music service in February. Now, a little over 2 months later, CBC is receiving some serious heat from a coalition of Canadian media groups, who claim the service goes against the most basic business structure, which is if you give things away for free, you don’t make money.
The online service allows access to over 40 online radio stations ranging from Classical to Hip Hop, concerts and songs on demand plus plenty of original content. Users will also have direct access to content from regular CBC programs like ‘Q’ and ‘The Strombo Show’.
The group has filed an official complaint with the CRTC, saying that CBC’s music service is damaging to the industry and that they should start charging for the service or terminate it completely.
CBC feels they are completely within the guidelines and their service is doing what it was intended to do, which is provide a unique experience for online music seekers.
As a user of this digital service I’m very interested in how the two sides will resolve this dispute. Are you ?
3 million bank accounts hacked in Iran
Original Post:
By Emil Protalinski | April 16, 2012, 11:05am PDT
First, he warned of the security flaw in Iran’s banking system. Then he provided them with 1,000 bank account details. When they didn’t listen, he hacked 3 million accounts across at least 22 banks.
After finding a security vulnerability in Iran’s banking system, Khosrow Zarefarid wrote a formal report and sent it to the CEOs of all the affected banks across the country. When the banks ignored his findings, he hacked 3 million bank accounts, belonging to at least 22 different banks, to prove his point.
It does not appear as if Zarefarid stole money from the accounts; he merely dumped the account details of around 3 million individuals, including card numbers and PINs, on his blog: ircard.blogspot.ca. I found the link via his Facebook account, along with the question “Is your bank card between thease 3000000 cards?”
At least three Iranian banks (Saderat, Eghtesad Novin, and Saman) have already sent text messages to their clients, warning them to change their debit card PINs. Furthermore, the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) issued a statement announcing that millions of ATM cards have been hacked and urged all card holders to change their PINs, especially if they haven’t done so in the last few months. The warning was repeated on state TV channels.
Some banks are currently blocking their clients’ accounts to be on the safe side, and the CBI has also apologized for the inconvenience this is causing. Furthermore, many ATMs in Iran have stopped dispensing cash and only let customers change their PINs when they put in their debit card.
It’s worrying that the CBI statement did not mention anything about improving security. Changing passwords isn’t going to solve the root of the problem if the security flaw isn’t addressed. Of course, it may even already have been fixed, but it’s important to let the public know of your plans and/or progress.
Zarefarid previously worked as a manager at a company called Eniak, which operates the
Shetab (Interbank Information Transfer Network) system, an electronic banking clearance and automated payments system used in Iran. The company also manufactures and installs point of sale (POS) devices. In other words, Zarefarid worked for a firm that offered services to Iranian banks for accepting electronic payments.
A year ago (Iran’s last calendar year ended on March 19), Zarefarid discovered the security hole and notified all affected banks of its presence. He even provided them with information about the bank accounts of 1,000 customers. When none of them responded, Zarefarid decided to make his findings public.
Zarefarid is reportedly no longer in Iran, though it is unclear when he left. He insists he hacked the accounts to highlight the vulnerability in Iran’s banking system. Central bank officials had earlier downplayed the reports, saying the threat was not serious.

How To Mass Resize Images In “Preview” On Mac
You can easily mass resize groups of images within Mac OS X by using the included Preview app, there is no need for any additional downloads or expensive photo editing applications, only Preview, which is free with your Mac! Here’s how to do it:
* Select all the images you want resized and open them within Preview
* From Preview, select the images that you want to mass resize (Command+A will select them all)
* Now, go to the menu labeled Tools, and then Adjust Size
* Enter a value for what you want the new width and height to be or choose from the pre chosen sizes
* Next, navigate to the File menu and click Save All
* All the images you selected are now resized!
This works in Preview that is included in 10.5 and up, great for reducing the filesize for facebook or emails!
‘Kinect: Star Wars’ for the XBox 360. Should you buy one ?
I’ll be honest, I knew a Star Wars Kinect game was in the works. What I didn’t know, was that a special edition console, sharing the likeness of everyones favorite do-all droid R2D2, was also in the works.
After seeing this awesome homage to Star Wars, I investigated further.
The console, as best I can tell, is only available through the purchase of a Kinect Star Wars bundle. The console has a 320gb hard drive which is nice but nothing too special. It comes with a single controller that has been painted to resemble C-3p0. A first ever white Kinect sensor and the Kinect Star Wars games are included as well. The bundle, in Canada retails for about $449. Not cheap.
A big selling point for the bundle seems to be the fact that the console plays the patented R2D2 sounds we’re all so familiar with. Great idea, right ? Well, from what I understand the sounds are only heard when you press the Power and Eject buttons physically on the console itself. If you use the controller, you get regular, lame earth sounds. This I don’t quite understand.
This undeniably cool bundle is undeniably cool, but the price is high enough to turn you to the dark side. While plenty of hardcore fans will surely spend their cash on this treat, I think I’ll have to wait.
If this is something you’re interested in, be sure to check out all the details or even buy it on a whim. If you do, be sure to tell us what you think.
May the force be with you !
